About Prerana Educational Centre...

The Prerana Educational Centre is a cross-disability center, which means that children with all types of disabilities such as visual, hearing, and speech impairments, cerebral palsy as well as intellectual and developmental disabilities including Autism and Orthopaedic challenges, they come and study as well as receive rehabilitation along with therapy at the centre. Out of many such students, 40 of our children are visually challenged and are provided with residential facilities because they come from surrounding tea gardens, villages, and remote areas and cannot commute on a daily basis. All services such as tuition, transport, food, uniform, and books are provided free of cost, as the majority of our family are from underprivileged backgrounds.

Our
Story

How did we begin?

Our School has been promoting the aims and objectives of the organisation, which was an initiative of our late founder, captain J.K Sengupta, who became visually impaired after the 1965 Indo-Pak war. Over the last many years, we have gone from having just 5 students to over 130!

What Else do we do?

We also run a vocational training centre for the young adults with disabilities in which they receive training in various trades such as tailoring, screen printing, cane basket weaving, and making decorative items. prerana also has an outreach program through a communit based rehabilitative training project in which 60+ children with disabilities are supported with individual home based training.
